Introduction

One thing that made the work of Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong unique was the way he looked to scripture for authority for doctrine rather than the traditions of men. As I point out in my main website in the section on Herbert W. Armstrong, he studied the Bible with an open mind and was willing to learn new knowledge from the Bible. He believed what God said.

This blog contains a list of doctrines taught by the Worldwide Church of God while Mr, Armstrong was alive, and for each doctrine a list of scriptures that support that doctrine. I hope that this may be a study resource for members of the Churches of God. For a more complete explanation of the purpose of this blog, see the announcement of this site in Preaching the Gospel blog, link here:
http://ptgbook.blogspot.com/2010/12/new-x-ucg-churches-being-organized.html

For each doctrine, there is a post, and the scriptures that may relate to that doctrine are listed in the post. The doctrines are in alphabetical order, except some newer posts may be listed at the top. I will be building an index post, but in the meantime you can find doctrines in alphabetical order in the archive listings in the right-hand column of this blog.

These are scriptures I have learned from the Church of God in books, articles, and sermons, and from my own Bible study and reading.

I am including some seemingly contrary or difficult scriptures that some may try to use to refute the Church's position on any doctrine. We should learn how to give an answer to those who question our beliefs (1 Peter 3:15, 2 Timothy 2:15). We should let the Bible speak for itself and not have the kind of bias in our Bible study that so many in the world have, only looking for scriptures that support what we already believe.

I plan to add additional scriptures to doctrines as I find them or as relevant scriptures are suggested to me. Suggestions for adding scriptures to a doctrine may be submitted as a comment in the post for that doctrine or by emailing me at author@ptgbook.org

It is my hope that by studying the scriptural support for what we believe, our faith will be in God and His word, not in our traditions.

"These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11).

"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

Enjoy your Bible study.

Index of Doctrines

I plan to soon add an alphabetical list of doctrines which will link to the posts that contain the scriptures for those doctrines.

In the meantime, you can use the archive listing of posts in the right-hand column of the blog to find posts for particular doctrines. Doctrines are listed in alphabetical order, except for new doctrines added in the future, which will appear near the top.
